Witnesses keep driver at scene after pedestrian critically injured near Lloyd Center

Portland police say a car struck a pedestrian near Lloyd Center early Saturday morning, but witnesses prevented the driver from fleeing the scene.

At 2:36 a.m., police said they were called to a car crash in the 400 block of Northeast Hassalo Street and discovered a male who was critically injured.

Police arrested 47-year-old Portland resident Isaac Q. Ellis and booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of dangerous driving, driving under the influence, second-degree assault, and failure to execute driver duties.

The Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is looking into the collision, which shut down Northeast Grand Avenue for roughly five hours.
