The Winnebago Police Department issued a warning to parents after reports surfaced of teens participating in a potentially dangerous game known as “Senior Assassin.” This game, which has gained popularity among high school seniors across the U.S., involves students using water or squirt guns to “eliminate” their targets in a mock competition.
While the game may seem harmless, it has evolved in alarming ways. According to USA Today, some teens now use paintball and airsoft guns, and even charge fees to participate. Players sometimes wear ski masks to surprise their targets, leading to real concerns as they can easily be mistaken for threats.
Police across the country have flagged incidents related to this game, including near-miss situations involving individuals carrying real firearms. In one case last spring, a licensed concealed carry holder mistook players for an actual threat, sparking serious concerns about the game’s safety.

Winnebago Police are asking parents to talk to their children about the risks, which include both safety and legal repercussions. Parents are also encouraged to monitor their kids’ involvement in the game, as it could lead to dangerous misunderstandings or 911 calls from concerned community members.
