Eugene Washington will rely largely on running back Jonah Coleman to put pressure on No. 1 Oregon’s defense, regardless of who starts as quarterback.
Coleman, who came to UW from Arizona after Jedd Fisch, has a career-high 1,008 rushing yards, nine touchdowns, and 21 catches for 160 yards going into Saturday night’s game.
The junior needs to perform extraordinarily well to surpass the Ducks, who have only given up one 100-yard rusher this season, despite having five 100-yard games this season. However, against Oregon, Dan Lanning likened Coleman to the only back to achieve that accomplishment.
According to Oregon coach Dan Lanning, this is the most gifted back we’ve seen this season aside from (Ashton) Jeanty. They’re both rather similar, in my opinion. When he reaches the second stage, he seeks out touch since he is a guy. He breaks a lot of yards after contact and perhaps more tackles than anyone else that we’ve seen.
Stop, go. He’s a fantastic one-cut runner. At the second level, you can observe his acceleration. Very good player; getting him on the ground will require our utmost effort.

Coleman has performed well against the majority of the best run defenses he has encountered this season, notably UCLA (95 yards) and Indiana (104 yards). Coleman was only held to 24 yards on 11 carries by Penn State, who were the only team to completely restrict him.
According to linebacker Jeff Bassa, Coleman is extremely explosive and capable of making tackles between the lines and in the open field.
It will be crucial for the Ducks to stop the 5-foot-9, 229-pound rushing back from breaking tackles.
Linebacker Bryce Boettcher stated, “I find it exciting that the physical looks for contact on the second level.” I’m eager to confront him. Runs hard and makes good use of his stiff arm. You have to play ball and tackle him low.
