Oregon State football meets Washington State football.
When Jake Dicker reportedly accepted to take a coaching position at Wake Forest on Wednesday morning, the Cougars football program was further dismantled.
Dave Clawson, who resigned earlier this week as coach of the Demon Deacons, is replaced by Dickert.
On October 25, Oregon State will host Wake Forest at Reser Stadium.
Dickert just finished his third season as head coach of Washington State, where he guided the Cougars to an 8-4 record and a trip to the Holiday Bowl. After Nick Rolovich was fired in 2021, Dickert rallied the Cougars program after being promoted from defensive coordinator to coach.
This last year, Dickert helped WSU endure the Pac-12’s decline by providing stability. The Cougars now find themselves in a similar predicament to Oregon State, which lost many of its key players to the transfer portal, coach Jonathan Smith, and some of its staff to Michigan State.
In addition to losing its quarterbacks coach and both coordinators in the last week, Washington State has lost a number of elite athletes, including quarterback John Mateer, to the transfer portal.
In the last year, Washington State lost men’s basketball coach Kyle Smith, who guided the Cougars to an NCAA tournament spot, to Stanford, and athletic director Pat Chun to Washington.
