A 34-year-old guy from Washington was given a 15-year sentence in federal prison for traveling to Oregon to sexually abuse a juvenile girl.
After meeting the teen online, Seth Lee Fabry traveled to Oregon twice to have sex with her, including at her Eugene home during her mother’s absence. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Sweet, he was detained during his third trip, which was organized by the girl’s mother after she discovered the abuse and took over her daughter’s social media account.
In a sentencing statement, Sweet stated that Seth Fabry had “realized every parent’s nightmare that an adult will have a covert relationship with their child, exposing them to sexually explicit material and subjecting them to sexual conduct.”
According to court documents, the girl stated her age as 21, but Fabry was 32 when they first started corresponding on the social media site MeetMe. In April 2022, they moved their communication to Discord, another online platform. Sweet stated that when the teenager stopped texting Fabry, he followed her from an other account and inquired as to if she had unfollowed him due to his Asperger’s disease.
The teenager messaged Fabry on April 14, 2022, stating that she had stopped following him because she was 16 years old. The prosecutor claims that Fabry then asked her to give him pictures of herself to establish her age and then went to Oregon to have sex with the girl.
Sweet claims that after the adolescent told her mother what was going on, Fabry’s mother arranged for him to come to Oregon a third time, but she was waiting for him with friends when he got there and phoned the police.
The date of Fabry’s arrest was May 26, 2022. He pleaded guilty to coercion and enticement of a juvenile.
Assistant Federal Public Defender Kimberly-Claire E. Seymour, Fabry’s attorney, requested a 10-year prison sentence, while Sweet requested a 15-year and 8-month sentence.
Fabry was sentenced on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Michael J. McShane. The matter was looked into by Eugene police and the FBI.
