Washington County opens warming shelters as Portland area braces for possible snow

In anticipation of predicted cold temperatures and some snowfall, Washington County is opening cold weather shelters on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a statement posted on Washington County’s website, the temporary shelters will open at 2:00 p.m. in the Beaverton Community Center, located at 12350 SW 5th Street in Beaverton, and the Blanton Street Building, located at 20665 Southwest Blanton Street in Hillsboro.

According to county officials, anyone can walk in without an appointment, and no one or their dogs will be turned away as long as they abide by the shelter’s rules.

According to county officials, the makeshift shelters will be open 24 hours a day in the event of severe weather and will be open until further notice.

TrimMet Lines 52, 76, and 78 provide access to the Beaverton Community Center shelter, while Line 57 provides access to the Blanton Street Building shelter.
