Arden
Michael Russell, a restaurant reporter for the Oregonian, listed Arden as one of the top 20 eateries in downtown Portland earlier this year. Why? Russell likes this wine-focused eatery, where owner Kelsey Glasser pours superb glasses and former Taylor Railworks chef Erik Van Kley delivers clever, loosely seasonal meals.

Coquine
Coquine in Mount Tabor, which was named the finest restaurant in Oregon in 2018, has grown to be a regular favorite.
In 2018, Michael Russell said the following regarding Coquine: Perched atop Mount Tabor, a dormant volcano that has been transformed into a public park, is Portland’s best restaurant. No other location in town offers food this sophisticated with a laid-back ambiance, right down to the cafe that’s open seven days a week and welcomes the neighborhood.

Covert Caf
This local favorite received many nominations from its devoted followers, making it an unexpected addition to the list.
Montavilla’s Covert Caf, originally Growler’s Taproom, serves a variety of beers on tap, succulent burgers, steak meals, and a regular schedule of live events.

Heavenly Creatures
One of the top new eateries in Oregon in 2023 was Heavenly Creatures.
Good French olives, the country pt, the yellowtail toast (always the bread), and a glass or two of excellent wine set the tone for a lovely evening at this wine-focused restaurant in Northeast Portland, which Michael Russell referred to as a Hollywood version of Heaven itself.

Kann
Among the many honors that Gregory Gourdet’s Kann has received is the 2022 Oregonian Restaurant of the Year award.
Kann is a renowned wood-fired Caribbean restaurant in Southeast Portland that sometimes be nearly impossible to book.

Kubo
Reader nominations for this Bethany commercial that showcases traditional Filipino home food were remarkably high.

Nostrana
Earlier this year, this well-liked Italian eatery placed third in the Oregonian Readers Choice Awards for best pasta restaurant.
Since 2005, Portland chef Cathy Whims has been serving Nostra’s famous pasta dishes in tomato-butter sauce in Southeast Portland, earning numerous awards in the process. Nostrana was named the local Italian restaurant of your dreams by Michael Russell back in 2017. The pizza at Nostrana was featured in Italy’s Top 50 Pizza’s list of the nation’s 50 best pizzas earlier this year.

The Oregonian Restaurant of the Year in 2013 was this Argentine-inspired establishment. Ox has long been regarded as one of Portland’s greatest restaurants, thanks to its wood-fired grilled meats and locally sourced ingredients.

Parallel

Urdaneta
One of the greatest Spanish eateries in OregonBack in 2017, Urdaneta served tapas and cocktails with a Basque influence. To taste open-faced sandwiches topped with grilled morcilla (blood sausage), some croquetas de jam, and a kalimotxo (red wine and cola) drink for just $5 apiece, Michael Russell recommended going to the restaurant during happy hour, which is from 5 to 6 p.m.
