At 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a revised frost advisory for the South Central Oregon Coast, which was in effect from 11 p.m. until Sunday at 9 a.m.
“Temperatures as low as 34 degrees will result in frost formation,” according to the weather agency.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” according to the weather service. “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.”
What to do if there is a frost advisory
In conditions where temperatures, winds, and sky cover are conducive to the formation of frost, frost advisories are issued from May through October (but they may be extended if needed). When the temperature is 36 degrees or lower, this is most likely to occur. The term ‘death frost’ is used to describe frosts that are severe enough to terminate the growing season.
If a frost advisory is issued for your area, the weather service advises moving delicate plants indoors for the night or covering them before the sun sets to help keep heat near them.
