The National Weather Service issued a revised high surf advisory for the Clatsop County Coast and Tillamook County Coast on Saturday at 10:16 a.m., which was in force until 6 p.m.
“Dangerous surf conditions and big waves. The weather service predicts that breakers up to 25 feet will occur. “On Saturday, the tides are predicted to peak at approximately 11 a.m. Forecasts indicate that the tidal gauges at Toke Point, Tongue Point, and Garibaldi will peak at approximately 12.9, 11.8, and 10.9 feet, respectively.
“During high tides, low-lying regions close to bays, sloughs, and the lower sections of the coastal rivers are likely to experience minor flooding, up to one foot above ground level. Jetties, beaches, and other constructions may be unexpectedly washed away by destructive waves. While watching heavy surf, people can get washed off rocks and jetties and drown. Buildings and properties along the seaside may sustain minor beach erosion. The weather service warns of higher-than-normal water run-up on beaches and low-lying shores. “When there is a high surf advisory, beaches will be impacted by rip currents, sneaker waves, and beach erosion. Keep a considerable distance from the water’s edge and keep an eye out for particularly large waves. Avoid going near big logs on the beach. Logs can be readily lifted or rolled by water running up on the beach, which might kill or seriously hurt anyone in their path.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
