Update: Air stagnation advisory issued for Oregon until Friday midday

The National Weather Service issued an updated air stagnation advisory for the Klamath Basin, Northern and Eastern Klamath County, Western Lake County, and Central and Eastern Lake County at 3:20 a.m. Friday. The advisory was in force until noon.

“Poor air quality will continue through the morning due to trapped pollutants,” the weather service has stated. “Winds will first become gusty at exposed locations in the higher terrain tonight, then will be strongest across the area during Saturday afternoon and evening.”

“Those who have respiratory disorders may experience complications as a result of poor air quality. Extended exposure to wind chill values might result in hypothermia. Hypothermia can result from prolonged exposure to extremely low temperatures. Unsecured objects will be blown around by gusty gusts. According to the weather service, there may be a few power outages and tree branches that are blown down. “When it comes to dealing with high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air, people with respiratory illnesses should heed their doctors’ recommendations. Pets should be kept indoors whenever feasible. Be careful when you’re outside. Put on gloves, a hat, and clothes that are acceptable. Driving in such severe winds can be challenging, particularly for cars with a prominent profile. Be especially careful.
