Update: Air stagnation advisory issued for Oregon until early Monday evening

The National Weather Service issued an updated air stagnation advisory on Friday at 1:30 p.m. that will be in effect until Monday at 4 p.m. for the Inner Portland Metro, East Portland Metro, Outer Southeast Portland Metro, and West Hills and Chehalem Mountains.

According to the weather service, “There will be a period of stagnant air conditions due to light winds and limited air movement.” Over time, this situation can cause air contaminants to accumulate.

The weather service states that “people with respiratory problems may experience problems due to deteriorating air quality.” “State air quality officials may advise—or even require—that home wood burning be restricted and that no outdoor burning take place. Long stretches of stagnant air can trap pollutants near the ground where people live and breathe, according to state air quality regulators. For information about any current limitations in your area, contact the local air quality and burn departments. When there is a high degree of air pollution during times of stagnant air, people with respiratory illnesses should heed their doctor’s advise, particularly if your location is under an Air Quality Alert. As an alternative, you could enter your location in the search bar located on the homepage’s upper-left corner. If there is an Air Quality Alert for your area, it will be displayed at the top; if so, you can click on it to view further information.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
