The National Weather Service issued an updated air stagnation advisory for the Oregon Lower Treasure Valley, as well as Harney, Baker, and Malheur counties, at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. The advisory was in effect from 10 a.m. until Friday at 8 a.m.
“A prolonged period of stagnant air, with light winds and little vertical mixing,” the meteorological agency notes. This is because contaminants may be trapped by an inversion close to the surface.
According to the weather service, “people with respiratory problems may experience problems due to poor air quality.” “Persons with respiratory illness should follow their physicians advice for dealing with high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air.”
