Update: Air stagnation advisory affecting Oregon until early Saturday morning

At 2:58 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated air stagnation advisory that will be in effect until 4 a.m. on Saturday for Jackson County, Central Douglas County, Eastern Curry County, Josephine County, Klamath Basin, Northern and Eastern Klamath County, Western Lake County, and Central and Eastern Lake County.

“A ridge of high pressure will result in a strong inversion and stagnant air conditions near the surface that will continue to trap pollutants,” the weather service says. Over time, this can make the quality of the air worse.

“Driving conditions could be dangerous due to low visibility. Keep an eye out for ice patches on roads. People with respiratory conditions may experience difficulty due to poor air quality, according to the weather agency. “Persons with respiratory illness should follow their physicians advice for dealing with high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air.”

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
