Tulane running back Makhi Hughes transfers to Oregon Ducks

According to the transfer site, the Oregon Ducks acquired the best running back available.

Makhi Hughes, a redshirt sophomore running back for Tulane, declared his dedication to the Ducks on Tuesday. Hughes, who was ranked by several recruiting organizations as one of the top players on the portal, accumulated 2,779 yards and 24 touchdowns during his two seasons with the Green Wave.

Naem Offord, a five-star freshman cornerback who signed with the Ducks in December, is Hughes’ older brother.

Hughes will probably have an opportunity to battle with Noah Whittington, the anticipated returning senior, for the starting running back position in Eugene. Jordan James, a 2024 bellcow back, declared earlier this week that he would be entering the NFL Draft.

According to 247Sports’ composite recruiting rankings, Hughes, a three-star recruit from Birmingham, Alabama, was not among the top 1000 players in the 2022 class. However, he excelled at Tulane and became one of the portal’s most sought-after talents this offseason. He is still eligible for two more years.
