Donald Trump’s campaign has announced plans for legal action and a potential criminal investigation against the Pennsylvania Values PAC. The group ran a digital ad featuring past statements by Trump discouraging mail voting. This ad, which aired over the weekend, spliced together clips of Trump condemning mail-in voting, suggesting his supporters should avoid the practice.
Despite previously condemning mail voting, Trump now encourages his voters to use it in the upcoming presidential election. The ad started with “MAGA Patriots, listen to our president,” followed by Trump saying, “Mail in voting is totally corrupt, get that through your head.” It ended with “Stand strong with President Trump against mail in voting!”
The Trump campaign swiftly sent a cease and desist letter to the group, claiming the ad falsely represented Trump’s stance and potentially violated the Ku Klux Klan Act, which protects against political intimidation. They demanded the ad’s immediate removal and the preservation of relevant documents for likely litigation.
The Pennsylvania Values PAC spent between $10,000 and $15,000 to display the ad to over 800,000 Pennsylvania voters, according to Google data. The ad has since been removed from Google for policy violations.
