Trail Blazers rookie Donovan Clingan eases into return after missing 7 games

The Portland Trail Blazers CenterAfter missing seven games due to a sprained knee, Donovan Clingan made his comeback on Friday night.

He was unable to contribute significantly to the team’s 118-116 loss at the Moda Center due to a minutes limit. Clingan claimed that despite not feeling well, he enjoyed playing with the boys again.

“I thought I performed well,” he stated. I had to regain my mobility.

Clingan, who is 7 feet 2 inches, came on as a substitute for 15 minutes. Both backup Robert Williams III (concussion protocol) and starting center Deandre Ayton (illness) were out. While forward Jerami Grant spent a lot of time guarding Spurs 7-4 center Victor Wembanyama, forward Jabari Walker started at center.

Clingan’s night started when he replaced starter Jabari Walker at the scorer’s table with 4:38 left in the first quarter.

Clingan realized how much he was missed during a spell in which the Blazers lost 1-6 thanks to the cheers of the spectators.

Clingan remarked, “It was good to have Rip City behind me.” I am grateful that they have my back. All I’m trying to do is go out there and help them as much as I can.

Clingan’s night was inconsistent statistically. For fifteen minutes, he managed to score six points and pull down seven rebounds. However, he also received four personal fouls and three turnovers with no blocked shots.

Chauncey Billups, coach of the Blazers, stated, “I thought he was good.” It’s a little rusty there. You can clearly tell the impact he has at the rim just by seeing him back out there.

Grant stood up for Wembanyama inside when the game was on the line. With 2.4 seconds left, the game-winning free shots were made after the second-year sensation forced the 6-8 Grant into a foul.

Clingan, the competitive one, would have enjoyed being out there. However, he understood that he was limited in minutes and that perhaps Grant’s athleticism gave him a greater chance.

Clingan said, “I understood.” Every part of it makes sense to me. I wasn’t irritated. I’m only exercising patience.
