Donovan Clingan, a rookie center for the Portland Trail Blazers, broke a franchise record Friday night when he blocked a shot in the third quarter of the team’s loss to the Houston Rockets.
The move put Clingan ahead of Bill Walton, who set the record by blocking at least one shot in the first 15 games of his 1974–75 rookie season, and extended his streak of games with a blocked shot by a rookie to 16.
Walton blocked 47 shots in those 15 games, with a high of nine.
Clingan has now blocked 34 shots in 16 games, including two at the end of Friday night’s 116-88 loss. Despite playing only 16.6 minutes, he had 2.1 points per game going into the night, which tied him for third place in the NBA.
