Congratulations if you aren’t working over a hot stove on Thanksgiving morning. Here is a list of Thanksgiving morning fun runs in the Portland metro area for people with free time or if you need to get the kids out of the house.

Thanksgiving day fun runs

There are a number of family fun runs this year if you’re the kind of person who has to burn off all that pumpkin pie with a 5-mile run. Some of them are special cause fundraisers.

Oregon Zoo Turkey Trot: This yearly event offers space for children in the Tot Trot or Gobble Gallop, but the 5K run is already sold out. Walkers and runners are welcome. Finish on the zoo grounds after starting at the Oregon Zoo and running through the International Rose Garden. We promote the use of costumes. It is necessary to register beforehand.

West Linn Turkey Trot Trail Race: This yearly holiday event is organized by Paula Events. You can choose between the 3.8-mile and the 0.5-mile kids’ trot. The majority of the run is on dirt or bark-covered park pathways.

There is a 5K or 10K option for the Clark County Turkey Trot. The Clark County Food Bank is the beneficiary of the proceeds.

Klineline Pond at Salmon Creek, 1112 N.E. 117th St., Vancouver; $30; turkey-trot.org; opens Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.

The Tofurkey Trot: Run with kindness! Join Northwest VEG for a 5K run across the Sellwood Bridge with your loved ones. The 2024 course begins at Oaks Amusement Park close to the Roller Rink, travels to the Sellwood Bridge via the Springwater Corridor, crosses the bridge and back, and finally returns to Oaks Park. Free vegan snacks are served at the end.

Run starts Thursday, Nov. 28 at Oaks Park, 7805 S.E. Oaks Park Way; check-in is at 7:30 a.m.; registration is $20 to $35, with discounts if you buy in early; nwveg.org/tofurky-trot.

Ridgefield Turkey Trot: This fun race consists of a 5K course and a shorter kids’ course that starts at 8:45 a.m. Union Ridge Elementary School is where it starts and finishes.

Thursday, November 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at 330 N. Fifth Ave., Ridgefield, WA; $10 to $35; sign up online at active.com/ridgefield-wa/running.

Sherwood Give n Gobble: The annual Give n Gobble event donates food and cash to local food drives. You can pick between 5K and 10K routes.

The walk path starts at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 9 a.m. Registration is $43 to $50 at Sherwood Middle School, located at 16956 S.W. Meinecke Road, on Thursday, November 28. Visit runsignup.com/Race/OR/Sherwood.

Government closures:

Courts and federal offices are closed on Thursday.

State courts and offices in Oregon are closed on Thursday.

Offices in Clark County, the Cities of Portland and Vancouver, and the Metro regional center are closed on Thursday and Friday.

Regular mail service is not available on Thursday, and U.S. Postal Service offices are closed.

The majority of banks are closed on Thursdays.

Transportation:

Streetcars, MAX, and TriMet buses operate on Sunday schedules and Thursday schedules.

Thursday is a non-service day for Westside Express Service (WES).

C-Tran operates on Sundays and Thursdays.

On Thursday, the Portland Aerial Tram is not operating.

Parking meters in Portland are free on Thursdays only, with the exception of metro parks, where parking is paid.
