According to media sources, a Texas furniture entrepreneur who is well-known for his generosity and love of gambling established a record for the biggest mobile sports wager ever placed.
The business tycoon Jim McIngvale, popularly known as Mattress Mack, wagered $4.53 million on the Cincinnati Bengals to win the Super Bowl.
McIngvale traveled 100 miles from Houston to a convenience shop located just across the Louisiana border, as Louisiana recently introduced mobile sports betting on January 28. Because the Caesars Sportsbook app wouldn’t let him wager that much at once, he had to keep increasing his wager.
Mattress Mack is who?
McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture advertisements, in which he claimed he would save you money while wearing a mattress, gave him his nickname.
He opened his Gallery Furniture stores as a shelter in Houston after Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and donates rooms of furniture to families in need as part of his Christmas customs. In addition, he flew first responders and members of the armed forces to the Astros-Dodgers World Series in Los Angeles that year and coordinated volunteers and vehicles to rescue Texans during that historic storm.
Additionally, he housed 200 evacuees who were fleeing New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. However, Mattress Mack’s pledge to save customers money doesn’t appear to hold true for his wagering.
His $4.53 million wager on the Cincinnati Bengals is not just his first wager on this year’s Super Bowl, but it is also not his first large sports wager.
He wagered $2 million on the New England Patriots to win the championship at 23-1 odds in November. The wager served as a marketing campaign for his clientele. His consumers would receive a refund for their purchases if New England prevailed. When he bet heavily on the Houston Astros during the 2019 World Series, he lost out on roughly $11.9 million in wagers on a comparable campaign.
Additionally, he bet over $2 million on a horse in the Kentucky Derby the previous year. Essential Quality, the horse, finished in fourth place.
