Vice President Kamala Harris is campaigning for the Democratic ticket in the 2024 U.S. presidential election after President Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election. There’s a lot of speculation about who might join Harris as her running mate, and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is a potential candidate.
According to CNN, Pritzker is on a shortlist of Democrats that Harris might consider for her vice-presidential pick. Pritzker has shown strong support for Harris and has experience with key issues for the 2024 election, such as gun control and reproductive rights. The Chicago Sun Times reported that Harris’s campaign had reached out to Pritzker’s office regarding a potential spot on the ticket.
However, Pritzker told Jeff Arnold of Nexstar’s News Nation that he had not received any call about a possible appointment as of Wednesday. He also declined to discuss any private conversations between his office and Harris’s campaign.
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Pritzker was asked about the possibility of being Harris’s running mate. He responded that he wouldn’t talk about private conversations. Pritzker emphasized his commitment to advocating for Harris and the Democratic ticket while making sure to defeat Donald Trump wherever possible. When asked if he would accept an invitation to be Harris’s running mate, Pritzker expressed his reluctance to leave his role as governor of Illinois but acknowledged it would be hard to resist if asked to consider the vice-presidential spot.
Pritzker has been the governor of Illinois since January 2019 and is currently in his second term. He endorsed Harris for the presidency on Monday, saying she is the Democratic Party’s best chance to defeat the Republican challenger, Donald Trump.

Harris has secured enough delegates to become the Democratic presidential nominee and is expected to choose her vice-presidential running mate by August 7. To qualify for the vice presidency, a candidate must be a natural-born U.S. citizen, at least 35 years old, and a U.S. resident for at least 14 years, according to the 12th Amendment.
