Palm Springs, CA – High winds are sweeping across Southern California’s desert and mountain regions, prompting a wind advisory that remains in effect through 2 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, west winds between 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph in areas including the Apple and Lucerne Valleys, Riverside County Mountains,
San Bernardino Mountains, and San Diego County Mountains. Locally stronger gusts, peaking at 70 mph, are possible near the San Gorgonio Pass between Palm Springs and Banning.
Cities under the advisory include Palm Springs, Victorville, Coachella, Indio, La Quinta, Apple Valley, and Julian. Forecasters warn that the strongest and most widespread winds are anticipated Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially in high elevation areas and passes.
The gusty winds may down tree limbs, create minor power outages, and lead to dangerous travel conditions—especially for high-profile vehicles. Blowing dust is expected to reduce visibility in desert regions such as Borrego Springs and Desert Hot Springs.
Drivers are urged to use extra caution and secure loose outdoor items. Winds may briefly subside at times but will return most evenings through late Tuesday. Officials recommend avoiding mountain and desert travel during peak wind periods.
