The National Weather Service urged beachgoers along the southern Oregon coast to be on the lookout for sneaker waves late Saturday and into Sunday afternoon.
The coasts of Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties are under the hazard alert.
Sneaker waves frequently take beachgoers by surprise since they run higher on the shore than other waves. They have the power to topple someone and drag them into the ocean.
They can also pick up logs that could pin or slam into humans, or they can move rocks that are underfoot.
According to weather forecasters, individuals should keep farther away from the water than usual and refrain from climbing on rocks and jetties.
