Interstate 5 was closed Tuesday morning while firefighters extinguished a fire aboard a semi-truck loaded with cashews and almonds, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.
According to Portland Fire spokesperson Rick Graves, the fire broke out on southbound I-5 close to the Capitol Highway exit in Southwest Portland at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Because there were no fire hydrants in the area, Graves said Portland Fire had to deploy several engines to get water to the scene. To put out the burning objects inside the vehicle, firefighters hacked their way inside with a saw.
According to Graves, it took nearly three hours to extinguish the fire. There were no reported injuries from the fire.
There are currently no more details available on the fire or its cause.
