A security guard has been charged with aggravated battery after a shooting incident involving a migrant in a Home Depot parking lot in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood.
The altercation occurred on August 6, when Bobbie Booth, 23, of Oak Lawn, and an off-duty police officer attempted to disperse a group of day laborers loitering in the parking lot.
According to court records, the situation escalated when Booth was punched by a man in the crowd, prompting him to draw his firearm and shoot a 28-year-old man who pushed him to the ground.
The victim sustained serious injuries, including arterial damage to his wrist and a fractured leg. Despite the severity of the incident, Judge David Kelly denied the prosecution’s request to keep Booth in custody as a safety risk. Instead, Booth was released with orders to surrender his gun licenses and appear in court.
This incident highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding security enforcement and the treatment of migrants in urban areas.
The shooting has raised concerns about the use of force by private security personnel, particularly in situations involving vulnerable populations. For more details, visit CWB Chicago.
