There was some positive news for the Seattle Seahawks about quarterback Geno Smith.
Test results on Smith’s injured right knee were positive, according to Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald on Monday. He expressed hope that Smith will train throughout the week and be ready to start when the Seahawks play the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Man, Geno is a beast. This morning, he worked out here and dealt with it. Macdonald told reporters on Monday, “I know he’s still feeling it, but this guy is tough as nails.” We’re hopeful that he’ll be prepared for the game and that we’ll see him practicing throughout the week.
The test results supported Macdonald’s comments following Sunday’s team’s 30–13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Macdonald expressed hope that Smith did not suffer a significant injury and stated he did not believe his knee had any structural damage.
Green Bay linebacker Edgerrin Cooper struck Smith in the lower leg, causing injuries. He hobbled over to the sidelines and headed for the changing room. Sam Howell, a backup, took his position.
During the third quarter, Smith went back to the sidelines and rested on the bench with a lot of ice applied to his knee. He didn’t play the game again. He completed 15 of 19 passes for 149 yards, one interception, and no touchdowns.
After defeating the Seahawks in Week 9, the Rams presently have the tiebreaker, although the Seahawks (8-6) are tied with the Rams for first place in the NFC West.
