Search for hiker missing in Mount Hood National Forest called off

After searching the Mount Hood National Forest for four days, authorities are halting the search for Susan Lane-Fournier, 61, who is thought to have vanished while hiking.

In a statement released Tuesday evening, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office stated that it had decided to cease its search because of the local weather and survival.

Since Saturday, one day after she was reported missing from work, search and rescue teams—which include volunteers, drone teams, and K-9 units—have been searching for Lane-Fournier in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness.

According to officials, her disappearance is still under investigation as a missing person, and investigators are trying to piece together how she vanished.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson John Wildhaber told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he had no additional information at this time when asked if detectives had ruled out foul play.

Clackamas County non-emergency dispatch at 503-655-8211, their Tip Line at 503-723-4949, or their website at clackamas.us/sheriff/tip, should be contacted by anybody with information regarding Lane-Fournier’s disappearance, according to investigators. Case number 24-024698 should be mentioned.
