Santa (hipster and otherwise) skips downtown Portland mall again this shopping season

This year, Santa Claus will not be visiting (down)town. Or at least not Pioneer Place Mall, the Portland retail complex that first attracted admiring families Christmas 2015 with Hipster Santa, sporting a man bun and naughty yet attractive arm tattoos.

According to a spokeswoman for Brookfield Properties, the mall’s owner, Santa, both the hipster and the more conventional versions of the character seemed to attract enough customers to keep them coming back. In 2023, Santa also bypassed Pioneer Place.
