Robby Scharf has been Wells’ football team’s interim coach or co-coach for the past two years, but he is now officially the team’s head coach.
Scharf officially announced the news on social media.

Scharf and Keith Bennett were co-head coaches of the Guardians last fall. Scharf was temporarily appointed head coach this season, and Bennett moved to an assistant position with the squad.
Under Scharf’s leadership, Wells has won two outright city titles, gone 15-5 overall, and been unbeaten in the Portland Interscholastic League for the last two years.
Wells has played for the PIL in the top bracket of Class 6A in the playoffs in 2023 and 2024. The Guardians lost to the Rams in the state tournament this autumn after trailing Central Catholic by only one score going into the fourth quarter.
