Bessette, a father of three, recounted the events, stating that he witnessed an older man being assaulted and robbed on the street while waiting for a passenger at a local bar. In a brave attempt to halt the attack, Bessette honked his car horn, only to be struck by a bullet through his car window, hitting him in the chest.
