Days after she reportedly ventured into the woods, search and rescue crews are searching for a hiker who went missing on Monday morning.
The car of 61-year-old Susan Lane-Fournier, also known as Phoenix, was discovered close to the Green Canyon Way Trails south of Welches, and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says it is searching for the driver.
Backpackers and hikers frequently utilize the steep, narrow trail to make the challenging 15-mile loop with the Salmon River Trail, which passes through the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The trail is considered basic by the U.S. Forest Service.
According to authorities, Lane-Fournier and her two enormous Malinois-mix dogs went hiking in the region a few days ago. When she failed to report for work on Friday, she was initially listed as missing. Her pickup truck was seen close to the hiking trail the following day.
Teams from Clackamas Search & Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue participated in a search and rescue effort throughout the weekend in response to that discovery. Two trailing K9 teams and over two dozen ground searchers have participated in the attempt.
According to the sheriff’s office, additional staff and resources are anticipated to join the search on Monday.
Although Lane-Fournier seems to know the location, it’s unclear if she planned to spend the night there. Over the weekend, there was light rain and temperatures in the forest fell below thirty degrees.
