Only a few weeks after enrolling early, one of Oregon football’s top recruits from the Class of 2025 is apparently logging into the transfer site.
According to a report by Brandon Huffman of 247Sports, four-star incoming freshman quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele is anticipated to access the site this weekend. The top recruit from Hawaii changed his mind on signing day and committed to Oregon instead of California. He had already enrolled at UO and was working out with the Ducks when they lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.
It’s unclear why Sagapolutele transferred so quickly. It appears that players from teams that were eliminated from the bowl games on January 1 have five days to access the portal, including those who are new to collegiate programs.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Sagapolutele was ranked as the ninth-best quarterback and the 88th-best player in the nation. Other recruiting sites ranked him as a five-star prospect, while 247 ranked him as a four-star prospect. With 10,653 yards at the end of his high school career, he surpassed former Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel to become the state of Hawaii’s all-time leading passer.
Akili Smith Jr., a four-star quarterback from California’s 2025 class, was also signed by Oregon.
