According to its marquee, the Regal movie theater in Portland’s Centennial area shuttered on Sunday, becoming the third Regal theater in Oregon to close in the last three years.
The Regal website no longer lists the 13-screen theater located at 16603 S.E. Division St.
Regal shuttered many sites in the United States last year, including one in Portland at 11626 S.W. Pacific Highway. As part of a prior wave of closures, it closed its Sherwood facility in 2022.
Cineworld, a UK-based company that owns Regal, declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy following a sharp decline in box office receipts during the COVID-19 outbreak. Last year, it came out of bankruptcy.
Regal’s website states that it now runs 14 theaters in Oregon. This covers three sites in Portland, including Fox Tower and Pioneer Place in the city center. It runs two cinemas in Hillsboro and three in Salem.
Messages asking for comment were not answered by Regal.
