Readers respond: Study needed on impact of traffic jams

A recent letter (Readers respond: Protect environment by limiting bridge size, Nov. 19) makes the argument that a smaller Interstate 5 bridge will help lessen the environmental impact, presumably by decreasing travel between Portland and Vancouver. To compare the effects of cars moving 10 to 20 miles per hour for almost an hour to cars traveling 55 miles per hour for 10 minutes for the same distance, a thorough investigation is required.
