Readers respond: Officers should enforce traffic laws

Although I don’t reside there, I do drive to Portland. Throughout the day, I witness folks exceeding the speed limit by 10 to 15 miles. These motorists maneuver in and out of the lanes.

On the side of the road, I also spot police officers sitting in their vehicles. These officers should, in my opinion, be stopping speeding drivers. Give these drivers a warning if the authorities don’t want to issue a penalty. More traffic enforcement, more early childhood education, or assistance for the homeless might all be funded with the money donated. Both pedestrians and car occupants are too frequently killed in our traffic.
