As Portland experiences another windy day, steady morning rain is predicted to give way to afternoon showers on Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, the interior valleys should receive almost an inch of rain over the course of 24 hours ending at 10 p.m. Friday. One to two inches will fall in the Cascades and coastal ranges.
Friday will also bring some gusty winds to Portland, with occasional gusts of around 30 mph. The temperature will peak at about 57 degrees.
In the middle Willamette Valley, where a wind advisory is in effect through 7 p.m. Friday, high winds have a greater effect. There is a chance of south winds reaching 45 mph in Linn County and the lowlands of Benton County.
A high wind warning is in effect along the coast, with gusts of up to 60 mph possible. The beaches are also likely to have high seas. Be cautious and avoid high-running surf and jetties.
As cooler air wraps around the backside of the low moving through the area, mountain snow levels will drop back to pass levels overnight after rising to 7,000–8,000 feet early Friday. Snowfall is expected to reach about 3,000 feet by the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, pass level roads are expected to receive roughly 6 inches of fresh snow. Around a foot could be seen at higher elevations in the same time frame.
As the winds in Portland moderate, showers will persist into Saturday. 20 mph gusts are still feasible. About 51 degrees will be the high temperature.
More rains and a high in the lower 50s are forecast for Portland on Sunday.
Forecasters are pointing to a perhaps dry spell in the second half of the week (read: Thanksgiving), which could be useful for travelers who are making plans for the holiday weekend. Next week begins rainy.
Tonight and Friday, another low is predicted to approach into the Pacific Northwest coast, bringing with it heavy winds, with the strongest winds likely to be seen along the coast. Notably, this low is not anticipated to be as robust as the system was earlier this week.xaWf6MeQav #wawx#orwxpic.twitter.com
