Portland Winterhawks

The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Wheat Kings 6-3 in Brandon to begin their road trip. As Portland continues to win games in the last quarter, goals from Alex Weiermair, Jordan Duguay, and Kyle McDonough in the third period broke a 3-3 tie. Weiermair scored his second goal of the match.

Given that both teams won on Friday night, Portland’s victory keeps them two points ahead of Tri-City in fifth place and four points behind Victoria in fourth place in the Western Conference.

72-Reed Brown (39 – 10/39)

After being traded from Saskatoon for a 10th-round pick, Lochlan Tetarenko now plays for the team.

Weiermair’s two goals on Friday came from a career-high nine shots. With a shooting percentage of.200, he leads the Winterhawks.

27-Tyson Jugnauth (96 – 52/37)

43-Ryder Thompson (273 – 15/39)
19 59-Carter Sotheran (194 – 19/37)
18 12-Cole Slobodian (44 – 2/39)
17 7-Kayd Ruedig (40 – 12/38)
16 22-Griffin Darby (34 – 3/34)

Portland has signed Max P. Eni Ka.Throughout the season, they have effectively been playing defensemen and import slot deficiencies, and at the roster deadline, they finally acquired their guy. It appears like he will be a huge addition.

Jugnauth has scored three points in a row.

Goalies (Career games – season save%/games)
18 74-Marek Schlenker (17 – .894/17)
17 1-Ondrej t bet k (27 – .893/27)

Although rebound control remained a problem on two of the goals, T Bet K stopped 29 of 32 shots on Friday.

In the four games last week, they managed to elude the goalies who took turns. However, that was partly due to the fact that they had to hook the starting goaltender twice. Therefore, there’s a good probability that Schlenker will return in this one.

Regina Pats

The Winterhawks are playing a team with less WHL experience than they have for the first time this season. The Regina Pats have been slowly selling as part of a rebuild all season, so it’s not like they sold a lot at the trade deadline. With the exception of one season in which Connor Bedard had the respectable, they have largely just been awful, and they kind of ignored it. It’s not like they’ve been rebuilding as part of paying the price for success. They are essentially rebuilding, but they only have seven players selected in the top 60; Portland is tied for last place with six, but their rebuilds are very different.

It has been a revolving door for them, as seen by the 39 players who have played at least one game for them, tying Prince Albert for the most in the league.

They defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds, who had a 5-4-1 record, 8-0 on October 19. They’ve been 6-17-3-1 ever since. They have recently improved, defeating Moose Jaw and Red Deer, who exhausted themselves in the last minute. Zach Pantelakis’ game-winning goal helped them defeat Moose Jaw 5–4 in overtime on Friday.

Forwards
20 52-Braxton Whitehead (237 – 17/35)
19 27-Caden Brown (225 – 21/32)
18 13-Keets Fawcett (101 – 15/36)

18-Zach Moore (89 – 11/33)
17 20-Connor Bear (33 – 9/29)

21-Ashton Brown (82 – 6/33)

24-Jace Egland (15 – 5/15)

34-Zach Pantelakis (80 – 13/32)

46-Kristian Lacelle (5 – 1/5)

72-Julien Maze (93 – 29/36)

16 37-Cohen Klassen (32 – 8/32)

47-Cameron Kuzma (28 – 6/19)

57-Zachary Lansard (28 – 9/28)

You can tell where they’re headed because nine of the thirteen forwards are sixteen or seventeen years old. However, of those nine, Maze is the only one selected in the first round. It’s not good for a team that hasn’t made any recent predictions about the future.

For Cole Temple, they acquired Maze from Everett in the middle of the season. In 15 games, he has scored 10 points for them.

Bear has an incredible shooting percentage of.313 and has played 29 games for them, which is almost a complete season. However, he only had 16 shots in his 29 games.

Fawcett has scored three points in a row.

Defensemen
20 5-John Babcock (249 – 19/38)
19 55-Ephram McNutt (167 – 14/22)
18 4-Kolten Bridgeman (94 – 3/36)
17 6-Reese Hamilton (75 – 5/33)

36-Brayden Smith (32 – 3/27)

38-Dayton Deschamps (33 – 5/33)

44-Matt Paranych (87 – 8/28)

Their other first-round selection, Hamilton, was obtained from Calgary in exchange for captain Tanner Howe. Despite just scoring five points in 33 games, Central Scouting has classified him as a B-ranked talent. Earlier this season, he played with the Hitmen in Portland. They want to grow there because Smith and Paranych are third-round selections.

Goalies
19 31-Kelton Pyne (87 – .892/29)

70-Ewan Huet (48 – .865/10)

Huet represented Switzerland at the World Juniors. While he was away, Pyne handled the majority of the goaltending, but Huet returned and started on Friday. Perhaps Pyne was being saved for Portland.
