At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the Portland Trail Blazers play their fourth game of the season against the New Orleans Pelicans, continuing their five-game road trip.
With a 2-1 series lead, the Blazers have a strong chance of winning the season series. Perhaps, though, only if they can keep former Blazers guard CJ McCollum in check.
For the Pelicans, injuries have made a promising season into a terrible one. Prior to Tuesday night, though, McCollum had been scoring a lot of points.
The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated McCollum 104-97 at home, limiting him to five points on 1-of-14 shooting.
But before that game, McCollum had an eight-game streak in which he averaged 28.4 points on 51.8% shooting and made 49.3% of his three-point attempts.
McCollum added some energy to a Western Conference club that had the worst record.
The Pelicans have had a terrible season. Zion Williamson missed thirty games, Dejounte Murray missed seventeen, and McCollum and Trey Murphy III missed thirteen each.
Williamson made a comeback against the Timberwolves, but it’s not certain if he will play in both of the back-to-back games.
Prediction: After suffering a devastating loss at Detroit on Monday, the Blazers, who have been playing well lately, will have had a day off. Williamson is probably out for New Orleans, which gives the Blazers a distinct edge.
