The Portland Timbers will play a well-known opponent in the first game of their 2025 Major League Soccer season.
The Timbers will start their MLS season against the Vancouver Whitecaps, a Cascadia foe, according to the 34-game schedule Major League Soccer released on Thursday.
In 2025, the Timbers will commemorate their 50th season. The Timbers joined the North American Soccer League (NASL) after being created in 1975. Throughout the season, the team will have theme evenings at home games to commemorate the milestone.
The Spirit of 75 night on June 13, the MLS Cup 10th anniversary celebration on July 16, the 50th anniversary celebration on July 19, and the Diego Chara bobblehead night on August 16 are all part of the theme nights.
During the regular season, the Timbers will play their Cascadia rivals twice. The Timbers will play the Whitecaps at BC Place on May 31 after hosting them in the season opener. The Timbers will host the Seattle Sounders on May 17 and then travel to Seattle on October 4.
