Meghan Klingenberg, a defender for the Portland Thorns, has made the decision to part ways. After eight years in Portland, the veteran defender declared on social media on Monday that she would not be rejoining the Thorns.

Meghan Klingenberg (@meghankling) shared this post.

Klingenberg was included in the list of players who would become free agents, according to roster updates that the Thorns had made public. Free agents would also include attacker Christine Sinclair, who declared her retirement in September, and defender Becky Sauerbrunn.

On Monday, the Thorns expressed gratitude to Klingenberg on social media.

We’ve been extremely fortunate to have you represent this city and this club; you are the epitome of what it means to be a ThornKling. I hope the future holds nothing but the best for you!tweet.com/QZZrYt40t4 photo
