Portland sees increasing clouds Wednesday, blustery east winds, evening rain

Wednesday sees a weakening of the high pressure system that has been preventing Portland from experiencing a pattern of foggy mornings and clear afternoons, which will eventually lead to rain.

As the first of several lows approaches, Portland may see some showers later in the afternoon. Overnight, there is a greater likelihood of rain, according to the National Weather Service. There will be strong winds, particularly in the area of the Columbia River Gorge. About 48 degrees should be the high temperature.

Thursday will be chilly with temperatures that barely make it into the mid-40s and rain for the majority of the day. The midday high in Portland will be at 46 degrees.

On Thursday, there is a chance of freezing rain in the upper Hood River Valley, the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest, and the foothills close to the Cascades. According to current models, there is a 30% possibility of some freezing rain with little accumulation in those places. Rain and cold temperatures can make driving treacherous, so travelers should exercise caution.

The heavier push of low pressure systems that will deliver rainy conditions throughout the weekend begins on Friday. Portland will experience a high of roughly 49 degrees with rain for the majority of the day.

With highs in the mid 50s to begin the weekend and a drop back into the high 40s by Sunday, the forecast calls for showers on Saturday and Sunday.
