Police reported that a guy was using a machete to threaten individuals in Portland’s Old Town district on Wednesday night, prompting tactical squads to arrive.
The Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Emergency Reaction Team have been summoned by Portland police to the 600 block of Northwest Naito Parkway, which is located immediately north of the Steel Bridge. A number of sidewalks and pathways are blocked, and all traffic is prohibited from using the parkway.
A scanner log indicated that more than 30 police units were present.
Local residents are being urged by the police to lock their doors and remain indoors. The suspect is surrounded by officers who are speaking with him. There was no other information available at the moment.
A police confrontation was sparked last week when a guy took over a TriMet bus and refused to get off, firing bullets close to the Steel Bridge.
