Portland man chased and shot at victim, police claim

According to police on Sunday, a guy from Portland was arrested for reportedly shooting at a person he was pursuing in a car in Southeast Portland on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Jamari Chapala is currently facing ten charges, including attempted murder.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., Portland police received a complaint regarding an automobile pursuing and shooting at another motorist.

Both cars were gone by the time they arrived at the location, which was close to Southeast 109th Avenue and Division Street. However, police reported that they had a description of the two automobiles and the suspect after reviewing surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses, and discovering traces of gunfire nearby.

At 10:50 a.m., two police spotted the suspect’s vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Avalon, a few blocks from the alleged shooting location. Three people leaped out of the car and ran into a nearby pub as the driver turned into a parking lot despite the cops’ attempts to halt it, according to the police. After police established a cordon and deployed a K9 team, the subject turned himself up.

The victim’s vehicle was located by other officers. According to authorities, there were gunshot impacts in the person’s 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, but the person inside the automobile was unharmed.

Along with charges on four prior arrest warrants, Chapala is charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as one count each of felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in public, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and failure to report as a sex offender, according to police.
