Portland man charged after stabbing roommate in the chest, prosecutors allege

Melissa Morgan thinks she was saved by a trip to Southeast Portland’s Lucky Lucky Bar.

Morgan prepared a letter outlining her concerns about her roommate’s behavior after weeks of attempting to discuss it with him, and she presented it to him on Dec. 28 while they were both at their local pub, she claimed.

However, it didn’t work: Morgan claimed that Stanley Polinsky shouted at her, tossed the piece of paper on the ground, and declared that he would be moving out that same day. Morgan chose to remain there until he removed his belongings from the apartment and came back to give her his key after he left the bar, Morgan alleged.

A few hours later, Morgan, 46, was sitting outside the bar’s smoking section when Polinsky came up to her and stabbed her in the chest, according to Morgan. She closed her eyes, felt lightheaded, and noticed holes in her chest when she looked down.

On the day of the alleged stabbing, Polinsky was taken into custody by Portland Police. He is charged with unauthorized use of a weapon, first- and second-degree assault, and attempted murder. According to court documents, he stabbed Morgan five or six times. According to Morgan, she has four stab wounds, including one on her left hand and two in her sternum.

According to court documents, witnesses were putting a towel against Morgan’s stab wounds when police arrived at the bar, located at 545 SE 162nd Ave. According to Morgan, she was transported by ambulance to OHSU Hospital by paramedics, where she stayed until New Year’s Day.

Morgan claimed that she believed her life was passing before her eyes and that she was going to die. However, she acknowledged that her injuries may have been considerably more severe.

She believes that her life was saved by her visit to Lucky Lucky Bar. Morgan claimed she thinks she might have died if she had returned home following the fight with her roommate. Additionally, she claimed that because the alleged incident took place in a busy pub, there were people there to assist her right away. According to court documents, spectators at the bar attempted to stop Polinsky, as evidenced by surveillance footage.

On Saturday, Morgan went back to the Lucky Lucky Bar for happy hour. She was hugged and given flowers by one of the proprietors.

On Wednesday, Polinsky will be arraigned. Morgan said she intends to go.
