Portland gets 1 more sunny day Wednesday before clouds, rain return

Wednesday marks the end of Portland’s 17-day run of dry, chilly weather. The morning begins with frost, followed by sunny skies and gentle winds.

Given that multiple systems are expected to move into the area, bringing rain to the valleys and lots of snow to the mountains, the National Weather Service is positive that this is the final day of clear skies for some time.

Clear sky and a high temperature of roughly 50 degrees are forecast for Portland on Wednesday. However, during the night, clouds will start to move into the metropolitan region.

After 4 p.m. on Thursday, there is a 30% chance of rain in Portland. There may be frost and overcast sky in the morning. The temperature will rise to over 45 degrees.

Friday sees a small increase in daytime temperatures along with more rain. The snow level will be close to or slightly above the main Cascade passes, and the high will be close to 51.

Early on Saturday, snow levels return to 1,000–2,500 feet. Early on Saturday, people who live close to the Coast Range and in the higher foothills of the Cascades may witness flurries, or rain that has been mixed with snow.

Just rain is predicted for Portland on Saturday morning, followed by showers in the afternoon. After around 10 a.m., thunderstorms are also a possibility. It will be cold and rainy with a maximum temperature of 44 degrees.

Overnight Saturday until early Sunday could bring snow once more. According to the weather service, the Portland/Vancouver area has a 30–40% probability of seeing some snow until early Sunday.

The mountains are your best option if you truly want to see some new snow. From Friday through Sunday, there is presently a 70–90% likelihood that elevations at or above 4,000 feet will receive one foot of fresh snow.

Early on Sunday morning, Portland is probably going to get a mix of rain and snow, followed by midday showers. About 43 degrees will be the high temperature.
