Portland-filmed movie with Travis Kelce as a producer opens in February

In February, another film that was shot in and around Portland will be released.Kyle Hausman-Stokes co-wrote and directed the comedy-drama My Dead Friend Zoe, which was allegedly influenced by his experiences witnessing friends die during his U.S. Army tour.

Sonequa Martin-Green, who starred in The Walking Dead and Star Trek: Discovery, plays a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who keeps seeing Zoe, her Army comrade and deceased closest friend, in the 2023 film My Dead Friend Zoe, which was shot in Oregon.

Morgan Freeman, Gloria Reuben, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ed Harris, and Natalie Morales are also part of the cast.

The show said that My Dead Friend Zoe was mostly about a troubled friendship, a divided family, and the various ways we deal with bereavement when it screened to favorable reviews at the 2024 South by Southwest festival in Austin.

An unexpected name among the film’s producers is Travis Kelce, who is well-known for both his intensely documented affair with music sensation Taylor Swift and his Super Bowl-winning NFL career.

Martin-Green stated in an interview with IndieWire that she thought My Dead Friend Zoe was a movie for anyone dealing with trauma, sorrow, loss, and grief. Although I was unaware of Travis Kelce’s status as an early investor during filming, it’s great because, while it may draw more attention, we want as many people to watch it as possible because it’s intended to be helpful and serve.

On February 28, My Dead Friend Zoe will be released in theaters.
