Portland-filmed movie coming to Netflix in 2025

The streaming behemoth revealed a lineup of TV shows, films, and other content that will be available for viewing on Netflix in 2025 during a recent Next on Netflix presentation that featured cameos from Ben Affleck, John Mulaney, Tina Fey, and the Duffer brothers, the creators of Stranger Things, among others.

The Electric State, an adventure starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, who are veterans of Stranger Things; Nonnas, a comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Susan Sarandon; and Kinda Pregnant, a comedy starring Amy Schumer, all have premiere dates already announced by Netflix.

However, Night Always Comes, a film that Portlanders will find particularly interesting, has not yet been given a release date, but it will be available for streaming on Netflix in 2025. Adapted from a novel by Oregon novelist and musician Willy Vlautin, the film was shot in and around Rose City in 2024.

The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby plays a working-class woman who is frantically attempting to save up enough cash to purchase the home her family has been renting for years. This is made more difficult by the way gentrification is altering her Portland area.

Michael Kelly, Randall Park, Julia Fox, Stephan James, Eli Roth, Zack Gottsagen, and Jennifer Jason Leigh are featured on the cast. The screenplay was written by Sara Conradt and directed by Benjamin Caron.

The Old Guard 2, another Netflix film with a local link, will be available for streaming on the service starting July 2, 2025. The film is a follow-up to The Old Guard, which was written by local author Greg Rucka and based on a series of Rucka’s graphic novels. The film started streaming on Netflix in 2020.
