Portland-area hospitals announce first babies born in 2025

According to local hospitals, at least two newborns were born in the Portland area during the first hour of New Year’s Day.

At 12:13 a.m., Kaiser Permanente’s Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas reported the birth of a boy.

Kaiser said in a statement that the family is doing well and would like to keep their privacy at this time. It was unclear if the youngster was the first 2025 baby born in the Portland region.

At 12:54 a.m., the first baby was delivered at a Providence Health & Services facility in Portland. Sugeyli Perez Silva and Cesar Garcia gave birth to their son, Ryan Garcia, at Providence Portland Medical Center.

At 12:09 a.m., minutes after midnight, a baby girl was delivered at Providence’s hospital in Newberg. Celine, weighing six pounds, five ounces, was greeted by Caera Owen of Newberg. According to Providence, the girl was the first baby delivered in Oregon’s health system.

According to Oregon Health & Science University, the first child delivered at OHSU at 4:30 a.m. was a female. According to Legacy Health, it has not gathered that data from its hospitals.
