On Sunday morning, a violent incident took place at a McDonald’s on Chicago’s Southwest Side, resulting in three people being stabbed. Police are currently interviewing a person of interest connected to the attack.
According to the authorities, the stabbing occurred at the McDonald’s located on Western Avenue and 79th Street just before 8:30 a.m. Emergency services arrived to find three victims: two 45-year-old women and an 18-year-old man, all suffering from stab wounds. The assailant reportedly became violent after a cashier refused his demand for free food.
Boe Cannon, a regular customer, witnessed part of the incident. He recalled seeing the attacker, who was carrying an ax, just moments before the stabbings. Cannon described how the man had asked him for a dollar for coffee, which he gave along with a cigarette. Cannon was unaware of the impending violence, only realizing something was wrong when he saw people fleeing the restaurant in panic and the attacker walking down the street eating a cookie.
After the initial incident, police conducted interviews with McDonald’s employees and cleared the scene. However, within an hour, reports surfaced that the suspect, described as wearing a red jacket, was spotted at a nearby CTA bus terminal. Police quickly responded and apprehended the man. His face has been blurred in news footage as no formal charges have been announced yet.
Cannon expressed his dismay, noting that the staff at this McDonald’s are friendly and non-confrontational. He emphasized that the attack was completely unprovoked and unexpected.
