The man reportedly opened fire close to the intersection of Southeast Harold Street and Southeast 72nd Avenue, sparking the standoff; no one was reportedly injured.
Following a nearly two-hour standoff on Thursday night that involving crisis negotiators, police K-9s, drones, and a tactical squad, a guy in Southeast Portland’s Mt. Scott Arleta area turned himself in.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Jeremy Michael Austin Clark was detained and charged with six counts of shooting a firearm in a city, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded firearm in a public setting.
After receiving reports of gunfire in the area, officers initially arrived to the site near the junction of Harold Street and Southeast 72nd Avenue at approximately 10 p.m., according to a statement from the Portland Police Bureau.
Although the authorities discovered evidence of gunfire, they reported that no one was hurt in the incident. Inside a pickup truck stopped at the crossroads, they found Clark.
According to investigators, Clark barricaded himself inside the truck and refused to go out.
Police blocked off the area and sent police K-9s, drones, crisis negotiators, and the bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team. According to authorities, Clark gave himself up at approximately 11:45 p.m. after a standoff that lasted almost two hours.
According to police, they also discovered a gun at the scene that they think was used in the crime. The inquiry is still under progress.
Furthermore, following a home invasion on August 7, Clark is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, menacing, harassment, and criminal mischief.
Earlier in 2024, he was found guilty of using a car without permission.
