Police arrest armed man who barricaded himself in truck during standoff in SE Portland

Following a nearly two-hour standoff on Thursday night that involving crisis negotiators, police K-9s, drones, and a tactical squad, a guy in Southeast Portland’s Mt. Scott Arleta area turned himself in.

After receiving reports of gunfire in the area, officers initially arrived to the site near the junction of Harold Street and Southeast 72nd Avenue at approximately 10 p.m., according to a statement from the Portland Police Bureau.

Although the authorities discovered evidence of gunfire, they reported that no one was hurt in the incident. They found the suspect—whom the police have not made public—inside a pickup truck that was parked at the crossroads.

According to authorities, the man barricaded himself inside the truck and refused to get out.

Police blocked off the area and sent police K-9s, drones, crisis negotiators, and the bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team. Around 11:45 p.m., the man gave himself up after a standoff that lasted almost two hours, according to the police.

According to police, they also discovered a gun at the scene that they think was used in the crime. The inquiry is still under progress.
